Vacant Fiesta Village Shopping Center could be razed for apartments, restaurants and shops

Apartments could soon replace long-vacant storefronts across from the old Fiesta Mall in Mesa. The Mesa City Council is expected to vote next month on a zoning case that would make way for the new development at the northwest corner of Southern Avenue and Alma School Road. Developers envision the project as a blend of residential and commercial, with about five acres of street-facing shops and restaurants, and a 220-unit apartment complex on the interior that would take up about 10 acres.
